DIY CNC - 2020

Challenge

To learn about parametric manufacturing methods and the challenges that come with it when making a servo controlled manufacturing device. This is an ongoing project that continually improves on the current design of the CNC mill. The end goal will be to make the machine be able to mill, print, write and paint. This project is also a starting point for more advanced machines like the infamous 5-axis CNC milling machine.

Process

In the first step the different types of mills have been analysed. This project actually started by making a pen xy-core plotter. Which is basically a CNC but less sturdy. A picture of this version can be seen below. So after realizing this design was very unstable a new one had to be made. So after choosing a particular existing design to use as a base the current version was made.
